#169: False Demise
I've always been partial to False Demise. My favorite use for it is Iridescent Drake. When the Drake, enchanted with False Demise, dies, False Demise will bring it back. Use the Drake's comes into play ability to bring False Demise back enchanting it. It's an easy way to get an infinitely recurring creature. But False Demise can bring any creature back. You'll generally be using it in one of two ways: as insurance for one of your own creatures (your opponent can kill it, but if he didn't already get rid of False Demise, the creature will come right back) or as a way to steal one of your opponent's creatures once you manage to kill it. Both are good enough that the enchantment can be used in both ways in the same deck, all depending on the situation. False Demise is a sold card for casual decks, especially in a creature-heavy metagame.
#168: Inviolability
Blue might have a way to make a creature bounce right back into play after it dies, but white has an even cheaper way to keep your creature from dying in the first place. I've played against lots of players in my Magic career and they'll build white decks that use cards to protect creatures all the time. But for some reason, I've hardly ever seen them use Inviolability. It should be
the definitive method for protecting creatures from damage. It won't protect against other effects, but damage has always been the biggest problem when it comes to protecting creatures. Whether you need an invincible blocker, an impervious attacker, or a less vulnerable utility creature, Inviolability gets the job done. It's also easy to work into a multicolored deck. Just hope that your opponent doesn't strike the creature down with a removal spell. I find it well worth the risk.
#167: Death Pits of Rath
In addition to having a totally awesome name, Death Pits of Rath is one powerful enchantment, making every creature in play as fragile as possible. Death Pits of Rath is a great way to stave off those annoying creature hoards, but the reason it ranks as highly as it does is that it combos with a lot of other cards for lots of fun. Use it with
Æther Flash to make it so that every creature coming into play dies. Throw in Repercussion and have your opponents take damage too. Use Tombstone Stairwell kill. Simoon clears away the opponent's creatures so that you can swing in for the kill. Abyssal Hunter or Prodigal Sorcerer becomes a creature-killing machine. Or play creatures that have echo or just die at the end of the turn. You could play only indestructable creatures yourself. Whatever you do, it's Death Pits of Rath that makes it all possible.
