#103: Warped Devotion
I had to wait for this card. I wanted something that would directly punish players for letting things be returned to their hands. Perhaps the only shame is that it's black, as I could use this effect in a blue deck. But discard is more of a black specialty anyway. Recoil is a really cool blue and black instant from Invasion that acts as a Boomerang and forces the player who just had a card bounced to discard a card, which can mean the player loses whatever permanent you hit if you're playing a U/B Discard deck. Warped Devotion turns every bounce spell into Recoil. Even if your opponent can keep cards in hand, Warped Devotion will still force some discards with each bounce effect, and when the card is replayed, you might just manage to bounce it again and force another discard. The flexibility of being able to bounce your own cards is sacrificed, but it's a small price to pay for wrecking your opponent's board and hand at the same time.
#102: Guilty Conscience
Pacifism is the most famous card along the "neutralize an attacker" theme. But it's hard to beat Guilty Conscience. Almost any good offensive creature and opponent might use will have a high power. Guilty Conscience means that if that creature gets involved in combat at all, it kills itself. Attacking or blocking will do just that. So this is one mana to kill your opponent's most dangerous creature, which is a very good investment indeed. Usefulness as a creature stopper alone might be enough to put Guilty Conscience on this list, but there's a lot more to this card when combos get involved. Using the right cards, it's actually quite profitable to put Guilty Conscience on your own creature. For example, there's the always fun Mogg Maniac (and hopefully something to pump it up). But the best one is Stuffy Doll. Two cards, six mana, infinite damage.
#101: Planar Void
The most important use of Planar Void is to shut down all graveyard tricks by your opponents. If opponents don't care about their graveyards, Planar Void won't bother them one bit. Planar Void still makes it halfway up this list in part because it's so very good at what it does. This one-mana enchantment will ruin some opponents by itself and seriously inconvenience most of the rest. It can also be combined with other cards for even more fun. Web of Inertia, an enchantment that didn't make this list but is still pretty good, combos with Planar Void to completely insulate you from attacks. Gravestorm, another such enchantment, will be sure to let you draw cards. Mist of Stagnation (which will appear on this list later) is even better. And if you need to keep your own graveyard empty, Planar Void takes care of that too.
This concludes the first 100 cards of Type Fun's Top 200 Enchantments series. When we return, we'll be featuring 100 enchantments that are all even more fun than what you've already seen. I know the anticipation is just killing you.
