Type Fun's Top 200 Artifacts (206-201?)

As TheStephenation had hinted at earlier, we have been working on an artifact list while doing the enchamtent one. And while I spent the past week and a half combing through artifacts I don't even know how to pronounce, I figured I'll get the most famous out of the way, and leave the rest of the list a surprise. Here is the original rules for the enchantment post from TheStephenation:

  • I made a cursory search of all the "artifacts" in the game. Cards that weren't yet in print or that I accidentally missed in my search won't be on the list.
  • Cards that duplicate the functions of other cards too closely won't be on the list. For example, Ghostly Prison is a good "artifact", but it's just a white reprint of Propaganda, so I didn't include it. On the other hand, Seismic Assault is nearly a reprint of Land's Edge, but because it's better than its predecessor, I opted to leave Land's Edge out.
  • Cards will be ranked by a "cool" factor moreso than by how powerful they actually are. Every card on the list can be used in some deck.
  • Cards that are too specific about hosing a certain strategy will tend not to show up on this list or, if they do, not place very highly. For example, Gloom is great against monowhite decks, but not any good against anything else.
  • I don't have a set schedule for how long this series will be. My hope is to update with at least one "artifact" every day until the list is finished.
That's all I can think of, so let's introduce the top 200 "artifacts"...

#206-202 The Moxen

This will likely be the only time you see a picture of these cards on this blog. They're broken. Typically, when you have a bunch of artifacts that produce mana of one color, the blue one has better synergy, but that's not true here. They're more useful than a basic land, even though they're essentially the same thing. With how expensive they are, you're typically not going to see them in casual unless someone is play testing a deck for a tournament, or they're just showing off.

#201 Black Lotus
So here it is, one of the most famous cards in the game. When I talk to people who stopped playing magic before the Urza's block, they always make some quip about how expensive this card has become. Rightfully so. Not only was there a reduced printing of this card in comparison to the cards today, but it is arguably the most useful card in the game. Free mana of any color, in the form of a permanent. A permanent that cost 0. If you have anyway to cycle this guy back into your hand from your graveyard, it can pay for the next time you want to play that ability by itself. But most of all what stands out for this card is I can't think of ANY deck that wouldn't benefit by running this card.
